ASPHALT RECYCLERS MAKE THEIR APPEARANCE IN JAPAN
The Japanese Government
have decided to spend a good part of the income from
foreign trade on the import of environmental technology.
This is an opportunity for Bagela to get a foothold in the Asian market.
In Japan, one of the
richest industrialised nations of the world, the
production of fresh asphalt is very expensive owing to
the limited availability of basic materials. An obvious
alternative is the re-use of demolished asphalt pavement.
After the Japanese
national trade commission have convinced themselves of
the economic and environmental advantages of asphalt
recycling, YTO-YOGYO, a renowned Japanese
importer, and
Bagela have agreed to cooperate.
A small asphalt recycler
of the type BA 4000, mounted on a small
truck, was
demonstrated in November 1998. This type
of asphalt recycler is mainly used for repair work on
roads, e.g. to close small excavations through the
asphalt pavement. Those who witnessed the demonstration-representatives
of civil engineering authorities,
contractors and journalists of technical periodicals –
were impressed by the ease of handling, the efficiency
of the asphalt recycler and the quality of the
regenerated asphalt.
The enthusiasm about the Bagela
recycling technology was mirrored in articles of the
civil engineering and environmental press.
As a consequence, Bagela
asphalt recyclers of the type BA 4000 were employed from
Yokohama to Hokaido in several cities within the first
half of 1999.
But soon it was felt that
asphalt recyclers of higher capacities would be useful,
e.g. for the construction of small parking lots and for
the use in underground pipe laying.
Bagela’s response to
this request was a the demonstration of an asphalt
recycler type BA 10000 on the occasion of the „Pro-recycling"
meeting in Osaka, which was organised by YTO
YOGYO. Many
operators of BA 4000 recyclers and other interested
visitors were present.
There is a general trend
towards recyclers of higher capacities and to mechanical
charging, i.e. to the use of recyclers of the types BA
7000 and BA 10000. Since the middle of 1999 several
asphalt recyclers of types BA 7000 and BA 10000 have
been exported to Japan.
These recyclers, which are in
common use all over Europe, were especially modified to
Japanese market requirements in co-operation with YTO
YOGYO, e.g. the controls were adapted to the construction
site conditions prevailing in Japan and all
recyclers were equipped with Japanese engines. |
